Why sideline?

There is nothing quite like the thrill of conducting a live sideline hit, aware that there is no chance to redo. Sideline reporting furthers the storyline of a game - it adds valuable tidbits of information garnered in game from coaches or athletic trainers. It allows you to tell an audience an emotional antidote about a player. It curates a cohesive and thorough coverage of a team. I became entranced by the ways in which you could connect to both viewers, players and coaches alike through this format of live reporting. While at UW-Madison, I have had the opportunity to sideline report for basketball, volleyball and hockey games. I now also work as the sideline reporter for the Madison Mallards and the Madison Night Mares, a collegiate summer baseball and collegiate summer softball team. Each of these instances has  helped me learn how to meticulously prepare for interviews, think quickly on my feet and become far more comfortable in high-pressure situations.
